The moon, being the nearest celestial object, has fascinated mankind for eons. The moon has been associated with strange behaviour, violent fits and werewolves. The word “lunacy” comes from the name of the Roman goddess, Luna who was supposedly the embodiment of the moon and a complement of the sun god, Sol.
There are many myths and legends about our only natural satellite. Many ancients (and some modern people) believed that the moon was responsible for fertility because the lunar and menstrual cycles were similar in length. There have been no scientific studies which show any such correlation.
